What to expect when playing U.S. college water polo:

Spring Semester

  • The Spring semester is the off-season for water polo.
  • You can expect to practice a maximum of 8 hours a week during fall.
  • In addition to training, practice games may be scheduled in preparation for the upcoming season.

Fall Semester

  • Water Polo is a Fall sport, played in the first half of the U.S. school year.
  • Games are usually played between August and December.
  • You can expect to play approximately 25-30 games in an average season.

Women’s water polo programs all over the U.S. participate under all governing bodies and divisions.

NCAA

The NCAA endorses three divisions of women’s collegiate water polo.

Division I
  • Currently sponsor 33 women’s water polo programs
  • full water polo scholarships are available per women’s college water polo team
Division II
  • Currently sponsor 12 women’s water polo programs
  • 8 full water polo scholarships available per women’s college water polo team
Division III
  • Currently sponsor 17 women’s water polo programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered water polo scholarship

CCCAA

The CCCAA endorses one division of women’s collegiate water polo.

  • Currently sponsor 43 women’s water polo programs
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered water polo scholarship

NAIA

The NAIA endorses one division of women’s collegiate water polo.

  • Currently sponsor 1 women’s college water polo program
  • Financial aid is available but is not considered water polo scholarship
